What began as a solo practice more than 30 years ago now includes 15 board-certified dermatologists who, along with an accomplished staff at six locations, provide the full range of medical and surgical services. The continuum of skin care includes treatment of psoriasis, eczema, acne, diseases of the hair and nails, and skin cancer.

Patients of all ages — from infants to senior citizens — enjoy the cheerful, healing environment of Anne Arundel Dermatology. The staff includes one pediatric dermatologist to address specific needs of children and the unique way they manifest conditions of the skin and respond to treatment.

Major emphasis is placed on the treatment and prevention of skin cancer—the most common form of cancer in the United States. Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers. “We encourage patients to examine themselves for new or changing moles, sores that don’t heal and pimples that don’t go away,” says Dr. Peterman. “The key is early detection and treatment.”

Two surgeons in the practice are specially trained in Mohs micrographic surgery, a unique procedure that has the highest potential for cure of any surgical procedure for treatment of skin cancer. The Mohs procedure involves surgically removing skin cancer, layer by layer, and examining the tissue under a microscope until a healthy, cancer-free margin around the tumor is reached. Mohs surgery is unique and so effective because the removed tissue is evaluated immediately by the surgeon. The Mohs procedure ensures complete cancer removal during surgery, virtually eliminating the chance of the cancer growing back. Other benefits of Mohs surgery are minimizing the amount of healthy tissue lost and maximizing the functional and cosmetic outcome resulting from surgery.

A major component of Anne Arundel Dermatology is the Cosmetic Dermatology Center, where aesthetic procedures are performed by a licensed medical aesthetician and carefully overseen by practice physicians. Every new client is given a skin analysis so that aesthetic services or referral to one of our dermatologists can be recommended as needed. Services include laser procedures, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and other treatments that stimulate the production of collagen and help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Physicians administer injectable products such as Botox, Restylane and Radiesse.
