For those who question whether it’s the journey or the
destination that’s more important, Carolyn Nelson,
owner of Belaire Limousine, has the answer – It’s both!
Recently celebrating 21 years in business, Carolyn established Belaire Limousine on a solid reputation of professionalism and dependability. What started as a part-time endeavor in 1990 with a single white limo has grown into a 13-vehicle fleet operating 24 hours a day, year-round, connecting people with places around the world.
“The main thrust of our business is corporate transportation,” says Carolyn. “From meeting to meeting, private jet to commercial jet, or taking people out to dinners and shows, we are exceptionally professional.”
Carolyn says the company’s big break came in 1995 when Harold Berkman, President of national, chauffeured transportation company, Music Express, contracted her to provide limo service for a movie filming in Baltimore. She was so successful in that endeavor that companies from around the world started requesting their ground transportation service to be booked exclusively with Belaire Limousine and Carolyn became known as “Carolyn from Maryland”.
“If someone knew they were going to Maryland,” says Carolyn, “they would say, ‘You have to go to Carolyn from Maryland, she’ll take care of you!’”
Not only does Belaire Limousine employ professional chauffeurs who are specially licensed by the Maryland Public Service Commission, it also meets standards as an approved Department of Defense carrier.
Providing passengers with the newest fleet in the county, clients can choose from a fully-loaded L-series Lincoln Town Car or a luxurious 8-passenger Lincoln Stretch Limousine with TV, VCR, CD player, intercom, privacy window and split seating for a more comfortable ride. Also available are fully-loaded sixpassenger Escalade ESV SUVs and executive vans capable of carrying up to 10 passengers. The vans are equipped with pull-down television screens so business passengers can view presentations while in transit.
While the sleek, black limousines are as stylish as they are discreet, it’s the state-of-the-art navigation and tracking programs that separate Belaire Limousine from the competition. “We have the best software in the industry,” boasts Carolyn, “enabling us to track commercial airlines, letting clients know in advance the status of their flight.”
The E-Fleet navigation program inside each vehicle provides chauffeurs with the most efficient routing. The Livery Coach program allows personnel in Belaire Limousine’s headquarters to track each vehicle, which is essential when business clients must maintain tight schedules while traveling to several meetings throughout the day. Should an emergency or sudden change in schedule arise, dispatchers are readily available to take calls and alert chauffeurs and their passengers.
Receiving accolades such as 2001’s Operator of the Year and 2002’s Person of the Year from the National Limousine Association, Carolyn not only acted as a liaison for the Association, she also addressed Congress on behalf of her industry after the tragedy of 9/11 threatened to put many transportation operations out of business. Carolyn even received a phone call from then-President George W. Bush. “I thought my friends were playing a joke,” she laughs, “but it really was the White House!”
