Chesapeake Dental Education Center in Davidsonville is a regional institute offering approved continuing education and training in comprehensive restorative and esthetic dentistry. Utilizing hands-on, interdisciplinary approaches and small class sizes, CDEC personalizes learning. Its extremely effective programs reflect the career experiences and expertise of its co-founders, Drs. James B. Wooddell, D.D.S. and Joseph C. Passaro, D.D.S.

“Dr. Woody” and “Dr. Joe” attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Dental School together and have remained friends and partners for three decades. Throughout their careers, patient welfare and education have motivated them to continually stay on the leading edge of dental techniques and technology.

Upon discovering their special passion, the doctors charted career courses leading to education and expertise within the complex field of restorative and esthetic dentistry—and ultimately to their formation of CDEC. Its programs synthesize the knowledge and techniques they learned and developed while seeking direction from dentistry’s most respected mentors.

Drs. Woody and Joe studied Occlusion and The Concepts of Complete Dentistry with Dr. Peter Dawson. They continued taking courses and being mentored by the field’s most respected clinicians, educators and technical advisors including: TMJ specialist Dr. Mark Piper; dental materials and esthetic specialist Dr. Frank Spear; denture fabrication specialist Dr. Walter “Jack” Turbyfill, renowned implant prosthodontist Dr. Robert Faulkner and computer-guided, implant-placement expert Dr. Thomas Balshi.

Drs. Wooddell and Passaro gained recognition for their restorative expertise while lecturing for dental implant companies and were sought as advisors by other dentists. Thus began their journey as educators. “We merged our passion for complex restorative and esthetic dentistry with hands-on, implementationfocused learning in small group environments to create Chesapeake Dental Education Center,” say Dr. Woody and Dr. Joe.

Their core philosophy incorporates the concept that assembling an interdisciplinary team of dental care specialists who are harmonious in their approach to comprehensive restorative dental therapy provides the most accurate diagnosis and complete treatment for any dental case. Students are taught the value of educating the patient and their inclusion in the decision making process when developing a treatment plan. The doctors’ ultimate goal is for students to fully implement course concepts into their own practices.

CDEC shares space with Wooddell & Passaro’s dental offices near Annapolis, providing course participants with access to its 3-D planning software, Kodak 9000 CT scan machine and their treatment database. Its Introductory Seminar is the cornerstone for the Workshop Series: Practical Occlusion, New Patient Exam & Photography and Case Presentation and PowerPoint. A Practicum encourages application and reinforcement of these concepts. Other advanced dental program topics are in development.

CDEC offers participants uniquely comprehensive learning opportunities in restorative and esthetic dentistry. Its developers, Drs. James B. Wooddell, D.D.S. and Joseph C. Passaro, D.D.S., are effective educators who teach with passion and from experience.
