Compass Pointe Golf

Golf Course / Golf Academy

Compass Pointe GolfGracefully routed through 800 acres of Maryland countryside, the Compass Pointe Golf courses offer a variety of terrains among the 36 holes of championship caliber golf, including the links-style North/East combination and the tree lined, parkland-style South/West pairing.

Lindsay Bruce Ervin, an award-winning golf course architect based in Crofton, designed all four nines, which are managed by Billy Casper Golf. Located just outside of Baltimore, Compass Pointe is also close to Annapolis and Washington D.C. A premier daily fee golf facility, Compass Pointe is regionally and nationally recognized for its quality design, conditions, amenities and overall value.

At Compass Pointe, golfers can have a unique playing experience each time they set foot on the course. There is something for golfers of all skill levels, including greens for players who rely on their short game and rolling fairways for long hitters off the tee.

“At Compass Pointe, golfers can have a unique playing experience each time they set foot on the course.”

With its many bunkers and open feel, the North/East course is a tribute to the game’s Scottish origins, as evidenced on the par-4 third hole where a split fairway and numerous sand traps present players with a classic risk-reward option. Play up the left to the blind section of the fairway and enjoy a good angle to attack the pin. Or play it safe to the right with a tee shot, and this tricky approach will test distance control.

Much like the classic Spyglass Hill on the Monterey Peninsula in California, Compass Pointe’s North/East course begins with the feel of a United Kingdom course, complete with undulating holes surrounded by large fescue-laden mounds. As the north nine comes to a close, players head into a wooded terrain, where accuracy off the tee and touch around the green is rewarded.

The South/West course opens with a demanding selection of holes. The par-5 first is a classic three-shotter and the downhill par-3 second requires proper club selection to find the shallow green. The long par-3 fourth hole requires an accurate approach to avoid the treacherous lake along the right side.

What the South/West takes away at the start it gives back with a gentle close to the front nine. The subtle turns of this classic parkland routing will expose lackadaisical play.

Both courses feature bent grass from tee to green and putting surfaces that roll smooth and true. While the layouts may be demanding, what lies from the fairway and around the green allows players every opportunity to make a well-executed shot.

The 36-hole facility offers an ample practice putting green and a driving range with both natural grass and artificial mat hitting bays. Opened in 2008, the Compass Pointe Golf Academy features an extensive player development program and a variety of instructional opportunities. Whether new to golf, returning to the game or an advanced player, the academy offers a program to meet any golfer’s needs.

Compass Pointe offers the flexibility of having two courses available for hosting events while accommodating groups of up to 288 players. The facility houses a full-service golf shop, grille, two pavilions and an outdoor patio with seating for any size event.
