Obesity affects every color, age, gender, and nationality. In today’s society it is scrutinized more than ever before. For men and women with morbid obesity dieting isn’t always the answer, but now there are safe and effective ways to surgically lose weight and keep it off. Delmarva Bariatric has been helping people with morbid obesity since 2002 specializing in state-of-the-art surgical care, nutrition, diet, exercise, and support services.

Gastric Banding is a safe and minimally invasive, adjustable surgical treatment for morbid obesity with the lowest complication rate. It induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach and restricting the amount of food that can be consumed at one time. Patients then experience an earlier sensation of fullness and satisfied with smaller amounts of food.

The surgery takes 27 minutes to install and patients are back to work and the gym within a week. “We really are experts in this field. We are installing 40 bands a month and Delmarva Bariatric Center has done over 850 adjustable bands in the Mid-Atlantic region,” says Sofronski.

Sofronski received his medical training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is also the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland as well a proctor for adjustable gastric banding. His colleague and partner Dr. Daniel McCullough did his residency at the Medical College of Ohio and then a laproscopic/bariatric fellowship at the University of Virginia.

Delmarva Bariatric Center combines the essence of a lifestyle change at home and work by helping their patients set goals and continuously watching each individual’s progression. Patients establish a tailored plan to develop healthy habits in physical activity, nutrition, and emotional well-being.

Delmarva Bariatric has developed a structured weight reduction management program that is mandatory for all patients; they also provide holistic and nutritional counseling, behavioral support, a focus on fitness and lifestyle. The aftercare program includes an on-site top-of-the-line fitness center with a years membership and four sessions with a personal trainer. They also offer weekly support group meetings and monthly nutrition classes.

“In the first year, most patients will lose 50% of their excess weight, but the operation is only 10% of the process. The other 90% is food and maintaining an effective and healthy lifestyle. This allows for weight loss to occur at a natural and healthy rate,” says Sofronski.

Along with obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol, sleep apnea, type 2- diabetes, and arthritic joint pain could also improve with gastric banding surgery.
