Pharmacy and Gifts

Edwards PharmacyThe neighborhood pharmacist, an American icon for many decades, was often the go-to person for any kind of medical issue. Interestingly, that trend is coming back—or did it just never go away?

Shalendra Anil Cherukuri (“Anil,” as he is known to his customers), pharmacist and owner of Edwards Pharmacy in Centreville, ranks personalized service as a top priority for his business and is proud to claim that he and his staff know all their “regulars” by name. Edwards Pharmacy has served residents of Queen Anne’s County for more than 40 years.

“Our strength is in the dedication of our employees and the personal service they provide,” Anil says. “Many of our staff have been with the pharmacy more than 10 years and some of them for more than 25 years. We care about our customers and are never too busy to answer any questions about a patient’s medications or medical condition. We provide free consultation and free prescription delivery as part of our service.”

“We reach out to our hospice patients by getting them the medications they need, often on a moment’s notice.”

As the official pharmacy for Hospice of Queen Anne’s, Edwards Pharmacy delivers prescriptions to all hospice patients at home or at the hospice center. “We reach out to our hospice patients by getting them the medications they need, often on a moment’s notice,” Anil says.

Edwards Pharmacy recognizes the uniqueness of each patient by offering a specialized pharmaceutical service known as compounding.

“Compounding is all about choices,” Anil says. “It’s a service that allows the pharmacist to produce specialized medications to suit a variety of patients’ needs and preferences. For example, a patient may have difficulty swallowing a pill and ask for their medication in liquid form. Or a patient may be allergic to or have a dislike for a certain ingredient such as dye, lactose, preservatives, sugar or alcohol. A compounding pharmacist can remove that ingredient and produce an effective, more palatable substitute.”

Many patients and their physicians work with the professionals at Edwards Pharmacy to produce a very personalized regimen of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) through compounding. “We use health information supplied by the patient to compound an HRT medication with precise adjustments in amounts and proportions to produce maximum benefit for that particular patient,” Anil explains. “This is a unique service that we provide.”

The range of home health care products available at Edwards Pharmacy is extensive and includes mobility aids, lift and reclining chairs, hospital beds, bathroom safety supplies, and many other medical supplies not typically found in a major pharmacy chain store. The gift center carries a complete line of Hallmark greeting cards, as well as a variety of jewelry, candles and other gift items. A photo processing center on site offers one-hour service and digital photo enhancement.

Edwards Pharmacy is part of the EPIC Pharmacies network of independently owned pharmacies committed to preserving the independent, community pharmacy by providing personal service and keeping prices down, even in the face of competition from large corporate chains.

“We are committed to serving our community,” Anil says, “and we are happy to be known as the friendly neighborhood pharmacy on the corner.”
