Many people are worried about the future and
concerned that the assets and security they have
worked to build may now be in jeopardy. Changes in
estate planning law are confusing and even frightening
to some. Others may be unaware that estates in excess
of $1 million are subject to the Maryland estate tax and
that their estate includes their life insurance. “Estate
planning has never been more important to make sure
you are taking advantage of all the strategies and
methods you are entitled to use,” says attorney Randall
D. Fisher, founder of the Fisher Law Office.
When clients work with the Fisher Law Office, they get individual attention from Mr. Fisher. Whether clients are interested in asset protection planning, business succession planning, or starting a new business, planning begins with the anticipation of change. Changes will inevitably occur in the life of an individual or business, and it is especially crucial today to stay current with ongoing changes in the law. Mr. Fisher is a member of Wealth Counsel and the Advisors Forum, a national network of more than 1,800 estate and financial planning practitioners who collaborate to make sure changes in the law are understood and incorporated in their legal advice and documents. “Wealth Counsel and the Advisors Forum provide a depth that allows my firm to stay small and personal while having big firm capabilities and expertise,” Mr. Fisher says.
Many business owners, including medical professionals who own their own practice, are concerned about being an attractive target for lawsuits. Mr. Fisher works with clients to create a plan that insulates family assets and reduces risk of loss from a potential liability.
Individuals often seek Mr. Fisher’s help in setting up trusts. Estate plans, Mr. Fisher points out, can have unintended consequences if not designed correctly. “It’s a fact of life that there are many blended families today,” he says; “yet estate plans that have not been changed or made at all can create disaster.” Many families have members with special needs. Bequests intended to enhance the life of a person receiving government benefits may actually result in reducing or eliminating those benefits if they have not been properly structured. Mr. Fisher adds, “Never assume that your situation is simple!”
Mr. Fisher began practicing law in Washington, D.C., in 1988, after completing his undergraduate work at the University of Texas at Austin and law school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He opened his Annapolis practice in 2004. Mr. Fisher holds the highest ratings for ethical standards and legal ability defined by Martindale Hubble, the legal profession’s leading peer review organization.
Mr. Fisher’s priority is to provide comprehensive, highly personalized counsel to couples, families, individuals and businesses. This advice is as varied as asset protection for medical professionals to helping an elderly surviving spouse divide up a lifetime of memories between children and grandchildren. Mr. Fisher says, “Our goal is to help clients take care of the two most important things in their life—everything they own and everyone they love—by giving in-depth, individualized attention to each client.”
