Anyone wanting a glimpse into what a private club of the future will look like, including member amenities and activities, should visit The Golf Club at South River where one of the region’s premier clubs continues to set the standard for today’s families.

Tucked away among the South River wetlands and wildlife in Edgewater, Maryland, The Golf Club at South River is just minutes from Annapolis and Baltimore and features a spectacular 18-hole course. During the past year alone, members have been enjoying more than $2 million in renovations and upgrades.

In 2010, the driving range was transformed into a state-of-the-art practice facility complete with a shortgame area, USGA chipping green and a separate putting green only steps from the practice tees. An onsite attendant guides players to open areas and assists during warm-ups.

A 12-foot illuminated clock custom made for the club serves as the focal point to arriving members and guests. A welcoming pair of Adirondack chairs arranged nearby offer the best views of the beautiful setting, which has adequate space for large tents and is available for special events.

The practice facility upgrade followed an awardwinning renovation of the clubhouse and the launch of The Bistro at South River, which includes a bar, lounge area with fireplace and seating for casual and upscale dining featuring seasonal menus. The clubhouse renovation earned a national award from Golf Inc. magazine naming it a finalist in the category of Clubhouse Remodel of the Year.

“Our award-winning clubhouse is the centerpiece of the club community as a place to meet, play, dine and celebrate,” said Donna Loftin, director of membership.

The golf course itself has received upgrades in 2011 as well, including rebuilt bunkers and green surrounds.

In addition to accolades from national media, The Capital and Gazette newspaper named The Golf Club at South River as Best Golf Course in the 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards, and The Bistro was recognized in the 2011 “Best of Annapolis” listings.

The enhancements continue with the final phase of renovations beginning this year for locker rooms, a full service fitness center, kids’ club and indoor hitting station where members can practice or have a swing analysis performed by one of the club’s PGA professionals. The Adirondack Room adjacent to the Bistro will hold up to 150 guests for member functions, community events, wedding receptions and more.

The Golf Cub at South River is owned and operated by The Brick Companies, a century-old, financially secure company. As a result, three policies differentiate the club from others: membership deposits (with flexible payment options) are refundable based upon when the member joined, there are no food and beverage minimums, and there will be no assessments on members.

Dues are all-inclusive and include unlimited golf, range balls and carts. As an added benefit, members can play two sister courses (River and Lakes) at Queenstown Harbor on the Eastern Shore, for a $25 cart fee with no restrictions.

There are currently fewer than 20 Charter Memberships available.
