"Hire a contractor you can trust.” That’s the advice on the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association’s website. In 2001, PHCC paid tribute to the professional excellence of Heidler, Inc., designating it “Plumbing Contractor of the Year.”

The Heidler name has been respected by industry peers and trusted by area consumers since 1947, when Harry Heidler and an associate established a plumbing and heating partnership dedicated to excellence. After 20 successful years, the partners agreed to form separate companies with their sons.

Brothers Steve and Mickey Heidler gradually accepted total entrepreneurial responsibilities and, with the invaluable assistance of their sister Judith Heidler Scott, the company’s business manager, they’ve expanded Heidler’s scope of operations and become one of the most versatile and progressive plumbing and heating contractors in the region.

Custom kitchen and bathroom remodeling has become an admirable part of the business. In 2000, the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Chesapeake Chapter presented its annual “Excellence in Construction Award” to Heidler, Inc. for a master bath renovation designed by Steve Heidler.

Typically, we remodel a mid-range bathroom in about two weeks.” Conventional plumbing and heating sales and services still represent major segments of Heidler’s business and reflect its innovative leadership in all aspects of the industry.

Consumer demand led Heidler to gain particular expertise with retro-fitting various hydronic heating systems into existing homes. The company also sells, installs and services water conditioning, solar water heating, gas logs, fireplace systems, lights and appliances, including high-efficiency, tankless water heaters which offer 40 percent energy savings, leave smaller carbon footprints and qualify for tax credits.

“We’ve been to thousands of homes and we still work extremely hard at customer service,” says Judi Scott. “Most of our techs are licensed master plumbers or journeymen plumbers and all take great pride in what they do.”

Commercial work, new construction and underground sewer and drain jobs fall within Mickey Heidler’s domain. The most advanced video inspection equipment on the market is used to diagnose problems, and technical training is continually updated to include the latest problem-solving methods and safety techniques.

By staying active with community organizations such as the North Arundel VoTec Center, Heidler influences young people to seek careers in plumbing and other skilled trades. Also, it sometimes hires apprentice plumbers and sponsors their training through programs offered by Associated Builders and Contractors.

Both Steve and Mickey Heidler have master plumber, master gas and master HVA/CR licenses. To stay at the leading edge of industry and business developments, they participate actively and have held offices in several national and local associations.

“We’re growing and have systems in place to keep us organized as we get even better at what we do,” says Steve Heidler. “Mick and I each have a son, third-generation Heidlers, who have joined the family business. My son is older and already has his master plumber’s license. They both share our vision for continued growth of the company and its dedication to excellence and customer service.”
