Tucked in among a forest of loblolly pines and spread out across 255 rolling, scenic acres and quiet streams is Talbot County’s Hog Neck Golf Course. Though its name fails to reflect it—Hog Neck was named for the farm which previously occupied the
property—this four-star, public golf course in Easton is one of the area’s most beautiful and treasured gems.
Like its name, Hog Neck’s serene terrain is deceptive. Both the par 32, nine-hole Executive Course and the par 72, 18-hole Championship Course offer appropriate challenges for golfers at every handicap level. Teeing grounds range from 2,000 yards to slightly more than 7,100 yards. The striking design differences between the outward and inward nines of the 18-hole Championship Course make the game extremely interesting and progressively more demanding. Following their tee shots out of the woods on the first hole, golfers encounter the course’s pristine Bermuda fairways, a myriad of bunkers and its once quiet streams—now presenting themselves as water hazards. The back nine ups the ante with very tight fairways and much longer approach shots through the loblolly pines to generously bunkered greens.
“In addition to 27 holes of challenging golf, we offer a comprehensive lineup of learning and practice areas rarely found at public courses,” says General Manager and PGA Professional Mike Kaminskas. He proudly adds, “Hog Neck has all the golfing amenities of a private club: a short game area, an extremely large putting green, a newly designed chipping green complex, and a driving range with both grass and mat hitting surfaces.”
When it comes to teaching golf, Mike is particularly passionate about Hog Neck’s annual sixweek Junior Golf Program which charges a very modest fee and occurs right after school lets out for the summer. Thousands of avid young golfers in Talbot County are products of this program, which introduces about 200 of them to the game each year. To further encourage their continued participation, Hog Neck’s yearly season pass and driving range plan, which members purchase to be allowed unlimited golfing privileges, also allows their children under 18 to accompany them and play free.
For novices as well as more accomplished golfers, Hog Neck’s Pro Shop is always well stocked with the latest golfing equipment, fashions and accessories. Its experienced staff members are eager to be of assistance and are well qualified to offer a wide range of club repairs and adjustments.
A comfortable place for golfers to relax is at the Hog Neck Café, which offers a fine assortment of quality food and nonalcoholic as well as alcoholic beverages. It also offers a catering menu filled with delicious selections as a consideration for those planning group outings.
A number of important golf tournaments, corporate outings and charitable fundraisers are held at Hog Neck annually. Event planners can focus on their clients, benefactors or associates because they can depend upon Mike and his staff to smoothly handle every related detail before, during and after an event. Their goal is to make each outing at Hog Neck a successful and unforgettable experience.
