For over a century, the Peninsula Regional Medical Center team has been dedicated to ensuring everyone has access to safe, cost-effective, high-quality care and the widest array of specialty and subspecialty services on the Delmarva Peninsula.
“When facing major medical issues, it’s comforting for patients to have comprehensive services close to home,” states Alan Newberry, President/CEO of the Peninsula Regional Health System. “We have assembled the region’s finest health care team who are committed to providing quality and compassionate care.”
The Medical Center has invested nearly $150 million dollars over the past decade on state-of-the-art clinical, surgical, medication dispensing, diagnostic imaging and information technologies. Soon the completion of a 100 million dollar expansion and renovation project will clearly position Peninsula Regional as the leader in specialty and subspecialty care.
The Guerrieri Heart & Vascular Institute team has performed over 11,000 open heart surgeries, provides the most comprehensive diagnostic and interventional cardiac care and performs vascular procedures in a new state-of-the-art endovascular suite. It is home to the largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular/pulmonary rehabilitation program in Maryland.

Peninsula Regional’s Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Center, performs more than 500 total joint replacements each year and has performed nearly 9,000 since pioneering the surgery in the 1970’s. The Surgical Services department at the Medical Center performs nearly 15,000 surgeries annually, is the region’s leader in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures and features the Delmarva Peninsula’s first da Vinci Surgical System Robot utilized for prostate and cardiac surgery.
In addition to these specialty services, with the area’s only dedicated Level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Medical Center welcomes over 2,200 babies into the world each year, and as the region’s designated Emergency/Trauma Center treats over 75,000 patients annually as well as providing inpatient and outpatient services to nearly 500,000 individuals. Peninsula Regional is also home to Delmarva’s only Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center and Peninsula Wound Center featuring Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for non-healing wounds.
Peninsula Regional was recognized by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent health care ratings organization, in 2009 with five star ratings in a number of clinical areas including excellence awards in Pulmonary Care and Critical Care. The Medical Center was the only facility on the Delmarva Peninsula to receive their Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. This exclusive award places Peninsula Regional in the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for hospital-wide clinical excellence.
“Peninsula Regional Medical Center is the centerpiece of the Peninsula Regional Health System,” says Newberry. “We touch the lives of hundreds of thousands of our friends and neighbors each year and when we do, we want to be sure we are there for them when they need us most by providing high quality and compassionate care. It’s a commitment to the region that we take very seriously.”
