When visiting the office of Pyramid Builders, it’s hard not to notice the portfolio of the company’s 20 years of work displayed along the walls. As visitors move through the lobby into the conference room they are surrounded by picture after picture of beautiful estates with stone pool terraces overlooking the Chesapeake Bay, a chateau with wrought-iron balcony railings, and stone homes with crenellated turrets and leaded glass windows. Interior shots feature carved limestone stairs, handcrafted exotic wood paneling, and professional-grade kitchens. It’s clear that Pyramid specializes in building the finest estate homes.

Given the substantial, durable nature of the products Pyramid delivers, one would expect the company to define itself in tangible terms. However, according to Pyramid president Bret Anderson, it’s the intangibles that set his company apart.

Beyond the sticks-and-bricks construction of a fine home, Bret knows there are thousands of decisions that must be made correctly to ensure that every detail fits a client’s lifestyle. “The right way to build a truly custom home is, in part, dependent on the details of a client’s daily life,” he explains. “It takes an unrelenting dedication to personalization to build at this level, and that dedication is rewarded with highly satisfied clients.”

One Pyramid client said of his home: “I knew I was getting a quality builder when I hired Pyramid. But I had no idea how much more I was getting. The house we set out to build was great. The home I ended up with is perfect.”

Pyramid uses a dual-management approach to achieve its results. A team of professional project managers essentially builds each project on paper before it’s constructed in the field. “Pre-building on paper allows us to identify problems as well as potential areas for improvement,” explains Mark Sanders, vice president of Pyramid.

The construction of each home is managed by a site supervisor who coordinates everything that happens at the building location. Critical phases of construction are done by Pyramid’s in-house staff of craftsmen who specialize in finish carpentry, tile setting, painting, stucco work and stone masonry.

“By doing the critical work ourselves, we maintain 100 percent control over quality and consistency,” says John Woodall, a site supervisor.

Pyramid’s involvement doesn’t end when a client moves in. Pyramid’s Exclusive Home Services division provides ongoing service and maintenance with the same care used during construction. Having Pyramid’s expertise available beyond the move-in date helps ensure that the homeowner and the home remain a perfect match.

There’s no doubt that the photos on the walls of Pyramid’s office are striking. But what’s more impressive is the detailed process and unwavering commitment required to transform each project from an initial vision into a home perfectly suited to its owners.
