Since 1989, Severna Park based Quayle & Company Design/Build, Inc., owned by Hal and Mary Quayle, has been creating dramatic landscapes including patios, pools and decks for homeowners throughout the Washington Metropolitan area. As their reputation for excellence continues to grow, Quayle & Company has spent the last five years focusing on its Anne Arundel County clientele. In fact, 90 percent of Quayle & Company’s new customers come from local referrals.

Relying on specialized education in landscape architecture along with almost 30 years of experience in the field, including hardscape design and implementation, Hal uses his trained eye and innate creative talent to blend natural and manmade materials to produce outdoor spaces that appear as effortless as they are timeless.

"We want to create a space that flows with a natural rhythm, taking into consideration both the home’s architecture and how the space will be used,” says Hal. “It’s important for the project to appear as if all the elements came together at the same time.”

That unified result comes from understanding the client's objective through clear channels of communication. “Communication with clients is paramount,” Mary emphasizes. “If you are not on the same page with your client, you will not have a satisfied customer.”

Hal formulates his designs based on a comprehensive assessment of the area and a thorough interview with the client. From there, he creates detailed, hand-drawn schematics, makes recommendations for materials and explains how the project will be constructed. “It’s an educational process for the homeowner to envision the end results,” says Mary.

From the onset of construction, Hal may continue to fine-tune the design to ensure a flawless outcome. “We do a lot of tweaking as we go along to make it the absolute best it can be,” he says. “Detail is very important in our company and everyone who works here understands that.”

Not only have Quayle & Company's projects been featured in Fine Home Building, The Capital Gazette and What's Up? Annapolis magazines, in 2008 three separate projects won the Excellence in Landscape Grand Award from the Landscape Contractors Association of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Quayle & Company was also presented a Beautification Award from the Friends of the Trail organization for donating a landscaped sitting area along the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail. In addition, they helped spearhead the design and installation of the Healing Garden at the Wellness House of Annapolis, a facility that provides support and resources to cancer victims and their families.
