Aging in place is the new catchphrase for today’s baby boomers. With more than 7,000 people turning 65 every day, a new company called Synergy HomeCare is in place and providing the services that are needed for today’s aging population. Synergy HomeCare offers their clients non-contractual, customized, high quality home care with compassionate caregivers who provide companionship, light housekeeping and personal care that includes assistance with bathing and feeding.

Mark Decker, owner of the company, says, “We use a team approach to be sure we provide our client with everything they may possibly need. We accomplish this by becoming the go-to person for each of our clients.”

Families with aging, sick or recovering family members find the services provided by Synergy HomeCare and its staff invaluable. “We don’t just care for the client—we make a difference for the family, too,” Mr. Decker says. “We help family dynamics as a whole.”

Synergy HomeCare serves Harford and Cecil Counties. Mr. Decker started with one part-time employee in March 2009 and now has more than 115 full- and part-time employees.

In-home visits by his caregivers can last anywhere from four hours to 24 hours a day, seven days a week depending on the needs of the family and client. Unlike most other services of its kind, Synergy HomeCare serves more than the senior population.

“It is important to note that we provide care for those recovering from cancer, strokes, orthopedic procedures and new moms just to name a few,” Mr. Decker says. “We work with clients with Alzheimer’s and dementia and local hospice agencies to provide needed staff when family members are unavailable to provide care in the home. We provide sitter services to local healthcare facilities. We partner with the Veterans Administration to provide our services to veterans in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties. It is indeed an honor and a privilege to work with our country’s veterans.”

Mr. Decker has been very involved in his community over the past 30 years. “I have a thorough understanding of the needs that exist in our community and how to fill those needs. With people preferring to be cared for in the comfort of their own home, non-medical home care is a growing segment in the healthcare industry. “My personal commitment to my clients and to my caregivers sets me apart from most other companies of this kind,” Mr. Decker says. “I am involved in every aspect. On any given day, you will find me doing anything from meeting with healthcare staff planning for discharge to working with my clients in their homes.”
