Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra, Chartered (WC&S) is a highly-regarded, regional firm of certified public accountants and business consultants who intently focus on the success of their clients—many of whom have been with them for more than 30 years. The company was established in 1979 by CPAs Carroll Weyrich, William Cronin and Manny Sorra in Baltimore County with an office in Lutherville, Maryland.

The practice’s partners recognized early on that in order to deliver reliable proactive accounting and tax services, it was important to develop and maintain close relationships with clients. Beginning in 1999, WC&S initiated a strategic expansion plan that was built around both internal growth as well as the acquisition of existing practices through mergers or outright purchases. The implementation of the plan proved very successful, with the practice expanding at a rapid rate and its client base experiencing very healthy growth, as well.

WC&S soon found that many new employees were residents of Harford County. So, in late 2000, the practice merged with an existing accounting practice and established a formal office presence at that firm’s Bel Air location. Following the move to its current office, WC&S management felt poised to focus upon planned growth in the Harford County area. By 2003, in response to that emphasis, one of its partners, life-long Harford County resident Benny Walker, CPA, began working in the Bel Air location on a full-time basis.

Since then, the office has continued to grow and most employees live in Harford County and are immersed in the community through numerous volunteer organizations and board memberships. “Community dedication and commitment to providing the highest level of personalized services made expansion into Harford County an essential strategy,” says Mr. Walker.

The firm’s expertise extends well beyond traditional accounting and tax services. Its management saw a need for adding practice specialties to its service offerings and, in 2004, acquired in-house expertise in accounting, tax, management and development services for dental practices. Another acquisition brought extensive expertise in litigation support, business valuation, and forensic and investigative accounting, not often encountered in firms the size of WC&S. Other specialty areas include family-owned businesses, nonprofit organizations, business consulting, real estate and construction, to name a few.

Moreover, because of the level of knowledge and experience within the firm, the WC&S client base is extremely diverse—comprised of individuals and entities of many types and sizes and in every stage of development in a vast number of industries.
